Hike Oyster Dome!

5.3 Miles Round Trip - 2053 ft gain - Out-and-Back Trail

Oyster Dome Trailhead - Search Nearby - Added by Piper Wolters

This classic lookout is not something to miss when in Bellingham. Fairly short and easy hike that climbs up to one of the most beautiful views of the San Juan Islands!

Take Chuckanut Drive until you reach the trailhead that is about 3.5 miles from downtown Fairhaven. The parking is right off the road, and only really fills up on sunny weekends.

Start up the trail, climbing up the many switchbacks. You will pass a viewpoint with a bench after one mile, soon followed by a fork in the road. Take the right path to continue to Oyster Dome. The next fork, another half mile later is less defined, but go right. The left one is the Talus Trail, for climbers. Another trail will connect, this being the Connection Trail. Stay to your left, and a few minutes later, you will reach the top.

There is plenty of room to enjoy the views and (hopefully) soak up some sun!

Overall rating:

Beautiful hike not far from Bellingham

While going to western I loved this hike on a sunny day or to catch a sunset over the San Juan's. Great location to take somebody from out of town as well.
