Visit the Te Rewa Rewa Bridge

Added by Tiffany Young

On a clear day be rewarded with a STUNNA' view of Mt Taranaki through the arches of the footbridge!

The Te Rewa Rewa footbridge in New Plymouth is absolutely beautiful and internationally award winning. Standing over the Waiwhakaiho River (sourcing from Mt Taranaki) and at 70m long, the footbridge looks like something familiar. Is it a whale skeleton? Or is it a breaking wave? Architecture lovers, where you at?!

Designed to aline with Mt Taranaki, for an incredible view, it is also representation of wind for the spirits of the dead buried around the Rewa Rewa Pā (Māori village) site. The bridge was designed so the side of the Pā was not heavily constructed on.

"Spanning the Waiwhakaiho River, its iconic form represents the sacred relationship between the land, sea and wind with the Ngati Tawhirikura tribe." - 100% New Zealand

Opening in 2010, it extended the New Plymouth Coastal Walkway further for walkers, runners, skateboarders, and more. This walkway stretch across most of New Plymouth!

And a visit to Te Rewa Rewa is also a visit to the beach, which can be reach by taking a short walk on the walkway.

Your dog friends are welcomed, but they must be on a leash.

For the sake of functionality and art... come visit!
