Relax at Garrapata State Beach
Details
Added by Mitch Pittman
The California central coast is all about beaches and this tucked away park in Monterey County is one of the prettiest you will find.
There is no wrong way to wind down after a day around Monterey, but there is nothing more quintessentially Californian than cruising down the coast to take in the sunset on the beach. Drive down past the hordes of people at Point Lobos and soak in the views on the way to Garrapata State Beach, where you will be able explore hidden coves all to yourself.
There are a few parking areas with trails that weave along the cliffs above the beach. Make your way down either a staircase or a creek drainage to get to the sandy beach where you can climb sea stacks (big rocks sticking out of the beach and water) or simply relax and take in the incredible views.
Any time here would be stunning, but the sunsets are really something special.
If you feel like a little more adventure there are numerous trails to the north including a longer trail that leads way up into the hills looking down on the Pacific.

Great stop on HWY1
This is a great place to visit when going to Big Sur or Carmel. Hwy 1 is beautiful and this is just one of many stops you gotta see. The water color is amazing!
