My family tree can be traced through the Land Between the Lakes and the Shawnee National Forest regions of West Kentucky and Southern Illinois. I have been obsessed with traveling the Nation's National and State Parks my entire life.

Likely the most famous view in the west. Can be very crowded. If in the area it’s a must do. Short but semi challenging hike for some.

I originally went here to see about this world class fishing I had heard about. The entry points to the river were tough in places. There were however many Bighorn Sheep and I even saw a Mountain Lion sleeping on a outcrop.

Great scenery. Continue on 2 miles to see something better in Iceberg Lake.

A crown jewel hike if the national park system. Make sure to hike in a group and have bear spray.

This is a truly hidden gem. My family and I can here many times as a child. The creeks, ghost town, snow capped peaks. Amazing view.

Easy but crowded hike. A surreal experience.

The best place to camp along highway 1. Sites quickly sell out. Shower house requires tokens.

The waterfall is ok, the small creeks with redwoods are amazing. Easy well kept Trail makes for a nice stop in Big Sur

Get above the trees at the tower. I hope the forest service has laid new planks of wood or that it is on the horizon because the last time I was there it was starting to show it’s age. Use caution.

Put this on the list with the others on any trip to Flagstaff. The hike is paved and can be done in a hour or two. Pretty canyon with up close native ruins.

To me this park is much more scenic and is more grand than Pinnacles National Park.

Pikes Peak may be the nearby headline, but this public park is amazing and will remind you more of Arizona rather than Colorado.

Make plans to see this during the fall when the aspens are changing color.

Combine this with a trip to the other two close by monument while staying in Flagstaff.

A cool part of the park that has a significant architectural building perched at the rim. Can get crowded.

This was a pleasant surprise for my wife and I. Getting a piece of the Grand Canyon to ourselves in the busy season.

The colors are like that if another planet. A tip is bring lunch and have a picnic in near the entrance here. Then spend some time exploring some lesser known sites in this region of the park.

Everyone should see this eruption at least once while completing a trip to Yellowstone.

Beat the crowds and walk further away from Old Faithful to see other impressive geysers. Early morning or evening make for less crowds.

Fishing for Yellowstone Cutthroat in an amazing landscape. It is easy to forget that there is real life somewhere else. Stop by some guide shops in the gateway towns for tips to catch the hardy and elusive native trout here.

Like natures stair climber but with a unreal waterfall. Getting close to the base of Lower Falls is pretty surreal considering the terrain. Must do for those able to make the decent and climb on the stairs.

On certain days of the week you can bike this route without any vehicle traffic for several hours. It gives an unreal experience of being in and around a hundred + year old mountain town without the sounds of cars. Often Bears, Deer, Turkey, etc are right off the road as the threat of vehicles doesnt exist. It also will allow for some pretty incredible footage with limited crowds.

Just park your car, grab your gear and take off into this empty canvass for you to make a shot of the impressive dunes with the backdrop of the mountains. Sunset was when I visited and it gave color of purples and pinks against the sand. It was also really quiet which was a added plus.

After finding the trailhead, I was excited to see the flora and fauna before I reached the beach and watched the surfers and ocean for most of a morning.
