My family tree can be traced through the Land Between the Lakes and the Shawnee National Forest regions of West Kentucky and Southern Illinois. I have been obsessed with traveling the Nation's National and State Parks my entire life.
Stopped by here after photographing Zabriskie Point at sunrise. The light was great and I got some great shots of a truly unique formation.

Get there when the stars are still out, grab your headlamp and make your way up the paved trail to the viewpoint. Then hike a little off trail and separate yourself from the crowd and take some amazing sunrise photos.

Lamar Valley is the best place in Yellowstone to see wolves. Hands down. Also, Bison, Elk, Mule Deer, Black or Grizzly Bears are often spotted here as well. Always hike with BEAR SPRAY!

This was a cool and different state park. The 1950’s seaside vibe was awesome. The hike down from the parking lot along the creek was also cool and the beach was easy to spread out.

This was a nice break on my trip from San Diego to Newport Beach. The tower and bath area right on the beach made for some awesome photos. Parking is tough to come by.

This is an amazing place outside the light of Vegas. Lots of pull offs, picnic areas, back country trails, and easy day hikes. The desert tortoises that life here are an added treat, they avoid the heat of the day though so take a later drive in the day or first light.

This is a very easy pull off over looking the valley. If you wish to get a little exercise, there is the long bike trail that runs through the park nearby with woods, cliffs, and in the rain-waterfalls.

A great escape along the Kentucky River near Frankfort and Lexington. Best time is Fall when trees are changing.

The tour I took did a great job of explaining ALL of the history, not just the owners of the plantation.

My favorite part of this trip was the boat ride through the harbor, seeing the dolphins and being able to see a different side of Charleston.

This is a great stop in Virginia Beach. There are two lighthouses, and can be explored for a small fee. There are also a couple of paths that lead to sites of battle nearby. A cool beach the military sometimes use for drills.

My family and I love coming to Bryson City. And this side of the national park is hands down one of my favorite places for a picnic, do a little flyfishing, and hiking to these three waterfalls. most are very easy to reach, with th ethird being moderate, just do to distance.

The author is right on the pupfish. Pretty cool story on how they survive such a harsh place. Solitude can be found here and on a weekday it is eerily quiet. Stay on the maintained trail as this ecosystem is really fragile.

There are a few trails, and a heck of view here. Take some time before you reach the Rockies and relax in the high grasslands if the bluff.

This is one of the best coast lines I have ever seen in my life. It was a major highlight of a road trip through Big Sur. Mostly easy parking but can get crowded especially on weekends. This place deserves more attention. It’s beautiful.

Waterfalls, shelter caves, chains to climb bluffs, and sweeping mountain top views.

Great trail and one of the icons of the park. Was damaged by the wildfires a couple of years ago. Use caution.

This area gets little visitation. Its fairly easy to navigate, but make sure to have plenty of bug spray. The Cypress trees are beautiful here and the views are awesome.

Not a long trail but pretty amazing spot to see a waterfall spill right into the ocean. There is a section that the state has closed off. Be sure not to get close as there is a really sharp drop off.

Ok the best may be up for debate. But this secluded beach is amazing at sunset. Be sure to get here a couple hours before sunset so you will have a place to park in the small lot. The beach will seem crowded from the lot, but there is plenty of room to spread out.

This is a great place to immerse yourself in the history of Washington DC. If you’re not into history, bike and running paths take you from point to point and museum to museum.

I didn’t think I would find any outdoor type activity while in DC. Glad I was wrong and stumbled on this place. It is unreal how big these falls are. Several trails lead to different points of view and their are visitor centers that can give you more ideas on how to experience this park.

This hike should not be missed and can be enjoyed by just about everyone. The light at different parts of the day make for amazing photos out of even the most amateur photographer. A can’t miss in Bryce.

A great family or beginning of trip hike while in Bryce. The shuttle system can help in points not wished to hike or take you back to your car.
