Description

Saxapahaw Island Park is an urban park along the Haw River. The Saxapahaw Island Loop Trail is a well-maintained 1.3-mile loop.  The trail parallels a section of the Haw River Trail/Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Many park visitors run laps around the loop while others fish along the river's edge, chill in the bank of hammocks, or take selfies on the large outcropping of rocks in the river. There is also a children's play area with a large fish-shaped slide and other nature-inspired playground equipment.

There is one portajohn off the parking lot. Trash bins are only located in the parking lot and the play area. There is ADA parking, however, the trail is not ADA accessible. The park is dog-friendly but dogs must stay on leash. Bicycles are not allowed on the trail. Nearby are several options for food and beverage, as well as camping and kayaking.

Hours:
The Park is open every day except Christmas.
November – March: 8am-6pm
April: 8am-8pm
May – August: 8am-9pm
September – October: 8am-8pm
