One day in the Dolomites - a road trip to the Pragser Wildsee

By: Cat Ekkelboom-White + Save to a List

Living in Innsbruck, we really are spoiled by beautiful nature, but there's always that desire, that sense of wanderlust to go out and explore somewhere new.  The Dolomites have been on our list for years. One sunny day in May we decided to get up early, jump in the car, and drive over the border.

Perhaps one of the most famous lakes in the Dolomites, Lago di Braies (or the Pragser Wildsee in German) is nestled in the national park Fanes-Senes-Braies, approximately 2 hours drive from Innsbruck. We visited mid-week and were pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was.

We want to acknowledge and thank the past, present, and future generations of all Native Nations and Indigenous Peoples whose ancestral lands we travel, explore, and play on. Always practice Leave No Trace ethics on your adventures and follow local regulations. Please explore responsibly!

Do you love the outdoors?
