About this place

Added by Elena P

Stinson Beach is a stunning coastal town and beach located 20 miles north of San Francisco along Highway 1.

Stinson beach is a popular destination for Bay Area residents and tourists alike.  Located just 20 miles north of San Francisco, it is a 30-40 min drive away from the Golden Gate Bridge (it's a one-lane windy road once you're on HWY 1).  It is also a popular stop when hiking the nearby Mount Tamalpais.

The sand is very fine, making it a great place for kids to play in and build sand castles. The beach itself is very flat, making it a great place for morning runs and sunset walks.  Dolphins, whales, and seals have also been sighted.

Looking for a nearby hike? The Matt Davis -- Steep Ravine Loop can be accessed from the trailhead behind the firehouse in Stinson.

Popular beach day spot
It's a popular spot for beach days north of SF. Would also recommend going farther north to Point Reyes or hiking the nearby Mt. Tamalpais.

Beautiful Beach
We saw a pod of dolphins here! Didn't spend too much time, but I saw lots of families and sandcastles. Would make for a great sunset spot!
