About this place

Added by Lacie Griego

The summit of Wasson Peak can be reached by a 7.7-mile loop trail. You'll see the remains of old mining operations including several old mine shafts, great views of Saguaro National Park and Tucson.

This hike starts at the King Canyon Trailhead. You'll follow the King Canyon Trail along the wash then down into the wash near the picnic area. You won't be in the wash for long before the trail will turn off to the right out of the wash. This trail is very well signed. You'll continue along King Canyon Trail until you reach the saddle.

At the saddle you'll have a great view of Tucson in front of you and a view of the trail and the desert behind you. At the saddle the trail intersects with the Sweetwater trail. You'll want to turn left and continue up to the peak. The trail to the summit veers off to the right from the main loop. Once you summit, sign the trail register and enjoy your well deserved snack you will follow same trail back down to the main loop and start down the west side of the mountain on the Hugh Norris Trail

You'll come to a four way intersection in the desert where the Hugh Norris Trail intersects with the Sendero Esperanza Trail. You'll hang a left here onto the Sendero Esperanza trail and follow it until you reach the Gould Mine trail. You'll turn right onto the Gould Mine trail which will take you right back to the parking lot.

If you try this hike in the summer be mindful of the high temperatures and the monsoons in the afternoon. Dogs are not allowed on this trail. There is an entry fee of $15 to enter Saguaro National Park.
