0.5 Miles Total - 164 ft gain - Loop Trail

Originally added by Adam Byrd

Perhaps the greatest draw for Moss Rock is that it is truly a park for all ages and skill levels. With 12 total miles of trails, visitors can opt for a short hike with the family, or a fairly strenuous loop hike throughout the entire park. Climbers will feel right at home in the boulder field, which offers many challenging routes, along with some easier faces for beginners.

Home to one of the largest boulder fields in Southeast, Moss Rock Preserve provides adventure for all types of explorers. Nestled in the rocky, rolling hills of Birmingham, at the end of the Appalachian Mountains, Moss Rock is aptly named after the behemoth boulders littered throughout its charming woods.

Moss Rock is located in Hoover, Alabama, off of Exit 10 on Interstate 459. The address is 617 Preserve Pkwy, Hoover, AL, 35226.

For bouldering information, check out Bouldering at Moss Rock Preserve.

Nature escape

Massive boulders, a great trail system, streams and waterfalls are all protected and hidden away in this beautiful preserve, just miles from the city. Lots of options for the whole family.

Beautiful

Stepping into the preserve you leave the bustling of the city of Hoover behind and feel at one with nature. Waterfalls, boulders, streams. Stunning nature.

We want to acknowledge and thank the past, present, and future generations of all Native Nations and Indigenous Peoples whose ancestral lands we travel, explore, and play on.
