Explore Leadfield Ghost Town
Details
Added by John Maurizi
Visit a remote Ghost town and take glimpse into the mining past of Death Valley.
Leadfield is located on Titus Canyon Road and requires a high clearance vehicle to get back and explore. There is a marker designating the site so it is easy to find. There is about three in tacked buildings and several other ruins along with a few mine shafts. Copper and lead claims were filed in the early 1900's but the town boomed in 1926 with advertising of a rich lead find. This was misleading but hundreds of people came to Leadfield to find their riches. Unfortunately, the lead dried up in 1927 and the town quickly dwindled to a ghost town.
I loved waking around this place. Fortunately not many people venture back here because of the need for high clearance vehicle. I had the place to myself which really helps you imagine how life must have been for these prospectors.
This is remote and not many people make it here. Be sure to tell someone that you are driving Titus Canyon Road. Do not attempt if rain happens to be in the forecast. Titus Road travels down a sandy dry wash that would be difficult to impossible when wet. The entrance to Titus Road is about 10 miles from Beatty, Nevada off Route 374. It is a one way road traveling from Nevada to California.
