Take the Panorama Gondola to the Summit of Mammoth Mountain Reviews
Took some family on the gondola ride to the top around labor day last year. They were having an event at the top—with a band and a bar, which was really fun! We stayed and watched the sunset over the minarets, then rode it back down.

Worth doing if you're in the area. In the summer (at least the last few years) it's mainly a lot of dirt and not particularly green, but still a beautiful ride and fun to check out. If you make it at sunset, then the skies are amazing above the mountains!
