Description

Norris Geyser Basin Longer Loop Trail takes on a longer trail through Norris Geyser Basin. This is the hottest and most geologically active thermal area in Yellowstone, offering rare acidic geysers and geothermal features shaped by millennia of seismic activity. Steamboat Geyser, the world’s tallest, and Echinus Geyser, with its acidic waters, are visitor favorites.

Porcelain Basin features an open, tree-free landscape with a short loop trail, while Back Basin offers a more wooded area with scattered geysers along a longer path. Boardwalks allow safe exploration, but summer visitors should prepare for limited parking options and possible overflow routes.

PARKING:

The Norris Geyser Parking lot is free to access and has 143 total spaces, 17 are oversized spaces, 5 are ADA-designated. Keep in mind it can get very crowded in the summer and rangers will direct vehicles to overflow parking when necessary. The trial from overflow parking adds ~ a half of a mile to the overall trail.

Norris Geyser Basin Longer Loop Reviews

Wide variety of geysers, pools, and mud pots here at Norris. While most visitors skip the area in lieu of the Old Faithful loop this area of the park has lots to offer in terms of geothermal activity. While there are plenty of trails, it is easy to only do shorter sections if you have less time.
