Take a brief escape from the city and visit the luscious, scenic Lakeshore State Park along the shores of Lake Michigan in downtown Milwaukee. Stroll around the Hank Aaron and Oak Leaf Trails that overlook the Milwaukee skyline and gaze upon the horizon.
Lakeshore State Park is kind of considered a hidden gem. While yes, it's right along the Milwaukee lakefront, people don't realize just how nice and beautiful it is! This urban state park features two loops (the Hank Aaron and Oak Leaf) that total 1.7 miles. To access the park, you can either park downtown near the Discovery World Museum or take Harbor Drive south past the Summerfest grounds to where the Milwaukee River heads out to meet Lake Michigan. Then, head East towards the red lighthouse, passing under the Hoan Bridge, where you'll find additional parking outside of the hill that the Marcus Amphitheater is situated on. From there, head north and you'll enter into Lakeshore State Park.
You can walk, run, roller blade, bike, skateboard and more! The concrete path is in fantastic shape as it's still fairly new. You can walk out onto the white rocks that line Lake Michigan, but be careful not to hurt yourself. There are numerous benches throughout where you can sit and take in the gorgeous views. Bring along a picnic and sit down on the lush grass. Come at night and stare at the city glow. The options are plenty. Bottom line is that this urban oasis is a must when seeing Milwaukee.

Hike the Hank Aaron and Oak Leaf Trails in Lakeshore SP Reviews
Love this part of Milwaukee. Tons to see and do. Keep taking the trail to the marina and look at the boats; that's one of my favorite things to do! Great views, peaceful, and plenty of areas to stop and soak in the views.

If you are craving to get away from the city while technically still being inside of it, this is the place! Great paths and locations to hide away from the urban structure of Milwaukee!

My family has done this trail for years. If we are in Milwaukee for the day we add this to the list of things to do. It's a nice walking trail with beautiful views and a gorgeous lake breeze.
