Quiet lakefront park with great sunset views and nice bike path

This lakeside park has a newer bike/walking path. The park itself is an excellent spot for a picnic or catching a sunset! There is a nice play area and a rocky beach.

The path is known as the Lower Yahara River Trail and opened in 2017. It provides a non-road connection between Madison and McFarland via Madison’s Capital City Trail and McFarland’s McDaniel Park.  There is a map at the park with trail details.  Fun fact: it is the longest inland boardwalk bridge made for non-motorized transportation in North America!

Plenty of geese in the park, so watch your step.

Bonuses:

  1. Free parking
  2. Looks like it would be an easy place to put in for kayaking
  3. Unlike many Madison area trails, no trail pass is required if you are biking
