Enjoy a stroll down a wooden boardwalk in the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge amongst abundant wildlife and active rehabilitation projects.

A free entrance and parking area for about a half dozen cars off Freeland Road features this quick adventure for all ages. The Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge and Freeland Boardwalk offers a variety of wildlife and environments like Ponds, Wetlands, Forests, and a natural limestone spring.

Also a popular birding trail, the information kiosk near the parking lot offers maps and guides with checklists including dozens of native birds, and other animals such as beavers, deer, and reptiles.

The trail is an easy half mile loop but offers an educational experience much beyond the walk.

Find Your Version of Heaven!

Each step away from the churn and burn of the daily routine is a step closer to the place you belong. The place full of mystery, wonder and surprise. A remote, placid lake. A world-class trout stream. A luxury cabin in the mountains. In West Virginia, you’ll feel far away from everything. And a little closer to heaven.
