The North Fork Mountain Trail & Chimney Top is a point-to-point backpacking trip. 360-degree views will await you on top of the Chimney Top!!!

One of my favorite hikes in West Virginia, since the whole ridge is full of views.

Backpacking the North Fork Mountain Trail is about 24.7 miles in total and a challenging hike but with relentless views. In my opinion, the best West Virginia has to offer. Summertime backpacking the whole the NFMT is hard, with no water on the trail so either you spot water ahead of time or you have to carry extra water with you.

If you're not into backpacking and looking for a day hike with spectacular views I highly recommend hiking to Chimney Top. Out-and-back is about 6 miles and a bit challenging with some tough climbing but it's well worth it. Hiking to Chimney Top in October when all the leaves are changing is my personal favorite since the views are absolutely gorgeous.

NOTE:
If you're planning to do the whole North Fork Mountain Trail, be sure to park one car at the trailhead off Smoke Hole Road and a shuttle car at the end of the trail on Hwy 33 (Mountaineer Dr) near Future Generations University.
