Enjoy a day on the calm waters of Vancouver Lake, near Portland, OR, either kayaking, canoeing, paddle-boarding, rowing or swimming.
This is a lovely shallow lake for kayaking with spectacular views of Mt Hood and Mt St. Helens on clear days. It’s an ideal spot for beginners to learn water sports including, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and swimming. There is a beach and park available for those afternoon picnics and naps too!
There is also a professional rowing club that holds competitions on the lake, so plan ahead. If a competition is taking place, parking can be a challenge as well as launching into the lake, while trying to stay out of the way of the rowers. There is also a parking fee at the gate, check the Vancouver Lake Regional Park website for updated costs as well as any algae concerns. Due to its shallow waters, this lake is prone to blue-green algae blooms and does close if the levels become dangerous.
