Stretch your legs on one of the most beautiful beachside Olympic views in Western Washington.

The Lighthouse Point Trail is yet another offshoot of Deception Pass Park’s wonderful trail system, which weaves itself through the northern corners to the southern ends of the park’s expansive walking paths. Perfect for families and for adventurers just getting their hiking legs warmed up for the season, the Lighthouse Point Trail is one of the closest options to the highway and a great way to test yourself before signing up for more miles.

Start at the Pass Lake Trailhead, or Bowman Bay Parking Lot, and head south along the Pacific NW Trail. This splits left to the Lottie Point Loop Trail, and right to the longer and more scenic Lighthouse Point Trail. After going another quarter mile, the trail forks left and right – choose either direction, as this is the loop you’ll return on.

When you leave the forest and land on the open hillside, feel free to wander around the rocks and hard-packed dirt of Lighthouse Point; there will be plenty of other picnickers and day hikers doing the same. Admire the views of Deception Pass Bridge, and maybe even your campsite if you stayed near the North Beach Trail or West Beach Trail to the south. Be careful when returning to the looped trail, as another unmaintained trail will take you deeper into a wooded area that is not suitable for inexperienced hikers.

Return to the Pacific NW Trail and you can decide whether you want to continue on to Lottie Point Loop, go north towards Bowman Bay, or call it a day and head back to the car at Pass Lake.

A favorite of mine in WA state

This is a beautiful trail any time of year. During the warmer months the water takes on different shades of blue and green. During the fall and winter months it becomes dark and rainy. Both offer terrific experiences of the area. I'd recommend this year round as a way to get away from the city but not have to drive for 2.5-3 hours

Great Family Hike

Just long enough that you feel like you’ve had a full day. So many beautiful points to look out over the water. Paths weren’t marked very good, but we found our way just fine. My husband and I took our 16year olds along and they enjoyed this hike. Beaches, grassy areas, and overlooks all provided ample space to eat, relax, or pause to take in the beauty.
