Hike to Wind Rock

Rate this Adventure Virginia Wind Rock Trailhead

Added by Jake Sells

Hike a spur off the Appalachian Trail to a rocky outcrop that overlooks the Mountain Lake Wilderness with great views.

At the parking lot cross the gravel road to the trail head that starts at a map posted on the edge of the road. Hike a quick quarter-mile where you'll turn left to a large rocky outcrop with views of the blueridge. You'll pass a campsite with fire ring before the rocky outcrop and overlook. I've also heard this is a great place to watch the sunset, something to checkout very soon.

Hike the Bald Cypress Trail

Virginia / First Landing Trail Center

This is an easy hike that meanders a bit more than any of the other trails in the park. It is also the most diverse in what you will see.

Hike the Osmanthus Trail

Virginia / First Landing Trail Center

This loop hike is accessed from a short walk from the Bold Cypress Trail and the visitor center.  There are no views along this trail but the what I enjoyed was the pine needle covered trail itself.

Hike the Riverview Trail

Virginia / York River SP Parking Area

From the parking area at the visitor center, pick up the Backbone Trail marked with gold blazes.  The trails are well marked with signage and arrows.
