Hike a spur off the Appalachian Trail to a rocky outcrop that overlooks the Mountain Lake Wilderness with great views.
At the parking lot cross the gravel road to the trail head that starts at a map posted on the edge of the road. Hike a quick quarter-mile where you'll turn left to a large rocky outcrop with views of the blueridge. You'll pass a campsite with fire ring before the rocky outcrop and overlook. I've also heard this is a great place to watch the sunset, something to checkout very soon.

Reviews
It’s a simple hike up to wind rock if you jump on across from the gravel parking lot. Views are stunning. If you like you can continue on the AT for a nice easy hike through the woods. Just have to turn around and come out the same way.

There are a couple campsites along the trail that I saw, once with a fire ring and a nice area to set up a tent. The views are tremendous and I brought along my camera for some photos. Bring a polarizer if you're shooting in mid-day! Really makes those clouds pop.
