Description
Added by Lucas Bremer
A 5 mile paved loop runs through Jamestown Island, part of Colonial National Historical Park.
The trail is open to cyclists and pedestrians, but does share the road with some vehicle traffic. The speed limit is slow and often there is little traffic. There also is no parking at the actual trail head, so one must begin at the Visitor Center Parking lot.
The trail will show off the natural environment in which English Colonists encountered when they arrived here in 1609. Trekking through forests, marshes, and ponds the trail is paved and offers many interpretive sites along the way to see how the colonists lived their life here in the new world. There are many pull offs and side trails along the main path.
At the half way point, you can add extra time to your journey with the short Black Point Trail which will lead to the tip of the island and has a great view of the James River.
To plan or gather more information on specifics stops along the trail, the National Park Service provides a great site to prepare you.
