Virginia Kiptopeke Parking

Explore this hidden gem on the secluded and rarely visited Eastern Shore of Virginia.

This beautiful State Park on the Virginia Eastern Shore provides visitors with a very secluded beach even in the dead of summer. The location of the beach also allows you to enjoy a sunset over water which is rare for the east coast. The sandy white beaches dotted with old crab buckets and crab traps is an amazing place for the entire family to enjoy the day or for that romantic stroll on the beach with your significant other. Kiptopeke State Park is great for fishing, crabbing, camping, SUP, kayaking, swimming and hiking trails. Enjoy fresh caught fish and crabs over an open flame while you enjoy one of the best kept secrets on the east coast! Kiptopeke State Park is just across the bay from Virginia Beach, Take the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel/US-13 North for roughly 23 miles until you turn left on Kiptopeke Dr which takes you to the park entrance. It is only 4 dollars for a day pass.

How to Get There

Great Spot For All Kayakers

Great for everything. Fishing the beach for flounder and Reds and ships hold a lot of fish to. Usually a nice paddle anywhere. Just take in account for the tide moving in and out.

This loop hike is accessed from a short walk from the Bold Cypress Trail and the visitor center.  There are no views along this trail but the what I enjoyed was the pine needle covered trail itself.

From the parking area at the visitor center, pick up the Backbone Trail marked with gold blazes.  The trails are well marked with signage and arrows.
