Tucked along Route 9 in Wilmington, Vermont, Molly Stark State Park is home to one of the most satisfying short hikes in the southern Green Mountains: the climb to the Mount Olga fire tower. At just 1.8 miles as a loop, it punches well above its weight — rewarding hikers with a genuine fire tower summit and sweeping views of the surrounding peaks and valleys.
The Hike
The trail begins from the main parking area and winds through dense mixed forest before making a steady climb to the 2,415-foot summit of Mount Olga. The ascent is moderate — manageable for most fitness levels and great for families — with the trail well-marked throughout.
At the summit, the historic fire tower is the highlight. Climb to the top for panoramic views of the Green Mountains stretching in every direction. On a clear day you can see well into New Hampshire and Massachusetts. It's the kind of payoff that makes a short hike feel like a much bigger adventure.
- Distance: 2.25-mile loop

- Spring/Summer — wildflowers along the trail, cool forest shade, and the full Green Mountain panorama from the top
