Floating the Provo River

Added by hilary fay greene

Take a natural ice bath, while enjoying the incredible views and navigating the rapids of the Provo River.

There's no better way than spending a hot summer day floating down a river with your friends. The Provo River offers incredible views of Mount Timpanogos and other surrounding mountains in the Provo Canyon.

The easiest way to do this adventure is to visit High Country Adventure in the Provo Canyon. They will get you equipped with tubes and a life jacket for a small fee. It will also give you a place to park your car.

Once you are suited up and have a life jacket they will shuttle you about 6 miles up the Provo Canyon to an upper section of the river. From there, they will show you where to put your tube in and you will begin your 4.5 mile, 2 hour journey back to where your car is parked further down the river.

Do not expect a "lazy river" experience. Navigating the rapids of the the Provo River actually takes some effort to make sure that you don't crash into a bush or a fly-fisherman on the side of the river.

I would definitely recommend bringing a rope with you if you want to tie your friend's tubes together so that you don't lose them. If you don't tie together or hold the tubes then it will most likely be a solo float experience.

Float on! And remember, please pack out what you pack in!

Go with a company

Go with a company like Runoff River Adventures. Let them provide a high quality tube with shuttle and lifejacket for the price you'd spend on a cheap tube that won't make it down the entire stretch.

Easy Float

Super fun and easy. We just brought our own tubes and it worked perfectly.
