Experience the unparalleled grandeur of Soda Springs Basin from the edge of Island in the Sky where you can watch the sun touch down on a wild desert horizon.

Turn right on Highway 313 after Mesa Arch Trailhead and follow the road past Willow Flat Campground to Green River Overlook. Park at the parking lot. Climb over the railing onto the rock edge. Sit and breathe in that desert wind and distant sun. Simple as that.

I recommend camping at Willow Flat to get the most out of Island in the Sky. Sites are available year-round, but they're first-come, first-served so get there as early as you can, particularly in peak season.

I took these photos on a clear day in mid-September; keep in mind the sunset will be farther north or south depending on the time of year.

Catch a Sunset at Green River Overlook Reviews

This is one of the first encounters one has with the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands. Majestic views and awesome red rock for miles.

Beautiful overlook and even better at sunset. The basin below is great when the sun is going down and every thing illuminates red. You can find a few different spots to set up your tripod and camera, just watch your step. It's a long way down.
