Description

Added by Jackson Smith

One of the premier places to fly fish in Utah, offering gorgeous rainbow and brown trout. All of this with a spectacular view of the the Wasatch Mountains.

The Middle Provo River runs from Jordanelle Reservoir to Deer Creek Reservoir through the Heber Valley. To get there from Salt Lake City, head southeast on I-80. Take exit 146 and merge onto US-189/US-40 toward Heber. Travel 17.1 miles; turning right onto W 100 South/River Road. 0.3 miles down River Road, turn right and follow the gravel road to a parking lot.

Trails to the west will take you to the river. There is also a second parking lot on the south side of River Road just barely down the street from the north gravel road.  Both areas have unique areas of fishing and I recommend checking them both out.

For expert advice, give a local fishing store a call and ask them what flies are getting bites on the Middle Provo. Fish Tech Outfitters (801) 272-8808. Click here for more info.

Fly Fish the Middle Provo River Reviews

Easy access on the Middle Provo River. The Middle is wild brown trout territory. Fish in excess of 18’’ are caught every day during all 12 months of the year using a variety of fly techniques. The public areas of the Middle Provo get a lot of fishing pressure. Be in your best stealth mode. Take notice of which section allows only artificial flies vs. general fishing with bait. Dont forget your fishing license.

Great location for fishing. This is the northernmost part of the Middle Provo near Jordanelle Dam. The river is wider here than even just a few miles below. Rainbow and Brown Trout are normally caught here. I have the most success by building my leader with pupa flies on tags coming off the main tippet and putting my shot weights on the very bottom of the tippet.

High pressure fishing area. Its beautiful and easy to get into the river, but dont expect to catch a ton of fish. They are wise to us. I saw one guy catch one fish but no others. Worth coming out and walking as far away from the parking lot as possible.
