Camp on Wire Mesa
Hurricane, Utah
Description
Added by Josiah Roe
Remote, backcountry camping away from the crowds just a few miles from Zion National park.
Wire Mesa off the Smithsonian Butte Backcountry Byway is a fantastic place to camp in southeastern Utah even if you do not plan on visiting Zion, just a few miles to the north.
There several backcountry campsites on the Mesa, with the northwestern-most site giving the best views overlooking the Virgin River Valley and the Grafton Ghost Town.
To get there, take the Byway south off of Grafton Road / S 205 from Rockville going up the Byway until you gain the top of the mesa with a clear, marked turnoff to the right. This route often requires a 4WD vehicle.
Alternatively you can reach Wire Mesa from the South on the Byway. This route does not require a 4WD vehicle though the road may be impassible regardless after a heavy rain.
There are no facilities or amenities.

Reviews
If you’ve got a vehicle with ample ground clearance and offroad capabilities, this is a real gem! Breath taking views and tons of peace and quiet. It’s close to Springdale and there’s cell coverage which is a plus.
