Walk this magical old oak wood on Dartmoor in England
Whistman's Wood is an old oak woodland in Dartmoor National Park in England. This small wood feels like stepping into a fairytale novel. The ancient oak trees grow amongst moss-covered, twisted tree trunks and branches and granite boulders, giving the place an other-worldly vibe.
Reaching Whistman's Wood is an easy walk, suitable for all the family. We did the walk as a simple out-and-back walk in around 1.5 hours as we were short for time, but if you can, take your time and do the full 2-3 hour walk to the wood and back via Longaford Tor.
Park the car at the Two Bridges Hotel. You'll have to pay, but if you stop for a drink or some food afterwards (which I definitely recommend), then you'll get the fee back.
Cross the main road, go through the gate and you'll find the trail. The walk out to the woods is mostly flat. You'll see the woods in the distance up ahead as you are walking out. While they are only small, they are absolutely worth the walk.
