Sparsely populated yet easily accessible. Many beaches open to camping. Easy to find a completely empty, secluded beach. Eat a Thai breakfast only minutes away by motorbike.
The easiest way to reach Khanom is through the town of Surat Thani, which is about one hour away. There are cheap flights from Bangkok, or Surat Thani can be reached via bus or train, as well. From Surat Thani you can take a bus from the airport to Khanom, or a minibus from downtown to Khanom and then rent a motorbike in Khanom. It can be also be reached by driving from Surat Thani with a car or motorbike.
There is camping at the reggae bars known as Jambay and Jungle Roots, or, about 15-20 minutes north of a Khanom, there is an empty bay with a Muay Thai training hut on the beach where they owner will let you stay for free and use the bathroom and kitchen area.
Cooking gear isn't necessary, as Thai meals are available nearby and are affordable (about 2-3 US dollars).
