About this place

Added by Improvised Journeys

Along Highway 287, just outside of Wichita Falls, lies the small town of Iowa Park. A peaceful lake with a paved trail encircling it for a mile loop of bird-watching, fishing, and jogging paradise awaits everyone from the local to the weary traveler.

The loop around the lake is just over one mile, and is great for doing repeats. A six mile run here is a wonderful way to spend a morning, as the ducks and geese come to life and the sun rises over the lake. There are so many varied species, colors, and varieties of ducks here it can be quite amazing. This protected bird sanctuary is right across from a gas station, McD's and the highway, but you can feel transported to a very calm place here.

Except for a bridge over the lake the entire trail is cement paved, though several areas have dirt or asphalt accessible alongside for those wishing the terrain to be easier on the knees.

Don't get too close to geese along this trail, as they can be aggressive, especially in Spring when they are with their newborn chicks. Water fowl of all kinds populate the shore line.

This is a great stop right along the route of anyone driving from Denver to Dallas / Houston.
