How do you have a picnic, slackline, hike, fish, and mountain bike all in one day? Hit Erwin Park. This is yet another hidden gem in far North Dallas.
Erwin Park is a single-track loop system designed for mountain biking which has drawn interest from trail runners and hikers, as there are tight turns, fast downhills, and technical sections of stacked logs.
There are numerous parking lots for different entry points into the trail system. At the main parking lot and the main trailhead, the City of McKinney has installed awesome bike racks with built in pumps (schrader and presta valves) along with every bike tool in a maintenance kit which is attached to cables and available for free use before hitting the trail.
The mountain bikers and trail runners in the area are known to hit this trail hard, then head to the quaint and beautiful downtown Mckinney to grab a cold craft brew at Tupps Brewery (less than 10 miles from the trailhead).
If camping, reservations are required and fill up quickly as camping locations in North Dallas are few and far between. You can call 972-547-2690 for reservations.
There is a designated area specifically designed for helicopter and drone enthusiasts with cover for shade in the hot summers.
Erwin is one of the few places in the area where you have a good chance of seeing owls, hawks, bobcats other large felines known to hunt rabbit and deer in the area.
