The 1880 Wall area is a great spot to get a quick climb in anytime, but especially in the winter when there is warmer day because it has southern exposure for good sunshine and is low in the valley so there isn't as much wind.

There are 2 walls named the 1880 Wall, one is the East Wall and the other is the West Wall. To get there you will need to follow Old Hill City Road, either from Hill City or from Keystone. If coming from Keystone it is about 3.8 miles heading west. There is a pullout right off the road and next to the railroad tracks on the south side of the road.  The draw of this area is that it has good southern exposure, so in the off season you can climb here in the sun and enjoy some good granite.

I will begin with 1880 Wall West, there are 6 routes on this face, they range from 5.8 sport and trad, up to 5.10+ sport route. All the routes are accessible to set up top rope. The longest route here is the Burlington Bulges and it is 150' mixed route, with 9 bolts and needs nuts.

The 1880 Wall East has 5 routes, ranging from 5.7 to 5.9+ and go from 60' up to 75'. These are all top rope accessible as well, so it can be a solid area to set your rope and practice leading safely if thats what you prefer.

The routes one the two walls are nothing to write home about, but when you can get out and climb on a nice December day in a T-Shirt you'll take it!

Climb responsibly and carefully, and remember to Leave No Trace.
