Paraglide over Knysna

Sedgefield, South Africa

Description

Added by Michael Gabbert

Experience the South African coast paragliding over the city of Kynsna. A unforgettable experience as you travel along the Garden Route of South Africa.

If driving the Garden Route on South Africa’s southern coast, the city of Knysna is a can’t miss. While there is plenty to do in the city itself, sixteen miles outside of the city sits a perfectly situated hilltop - one ideal for paragliding. At an elevation of a little less than 500 feet and working primarily off of thermals, ‘Cloud Nine’ hilltop is great whether you’re an expert or a first-timer.

To get here, depart Knysna and head west on N2 toward the town of Sedgefield. Once in Sedgefield take your first right onto Egret Road (note: it should be the first possible road once you get into the town). This gravel road will lead you to the top of the hill. Continue until you pass a wooden house. From here you’ll drive another ⅕ mile until you turn left into the launch site.

The aforementioned thermal air makes the area extremely consistent for paragliding. In addition, the location allows for fantastic panoramic views of the Rondevlie, Sedgefield lagoon, and the African coastline. Lastly, the tandem, guided excursions allow even first-timers to partake in this unique experience.

Note: for any guided excursion, be sure to sign up or call specific companies prior to driving to the hilltop. You’ll need to reserve space with any given tour.
