Description

Added by Sara Sheehy

Explore Piran's ancient town walls, whose construction began in the 7th century. Enjoy incredible views of the Gulf of Trieste and the Italian Alps.

From Tartini Square walk east on Ulica IX Korpusa. The short 1/4 mile trek is mostly uphill. Enter the town walls at the turnstile entrance on your left. The entrance fee, paid directly into the turnstile, is 2 Euros.

The town is constantly battling to keep the walls standing and the stairs safe, so not all areas are open for exploring. Expect steep staircases, short ceilings, and narrow balconies.

You can spend hours admiring the stonework, balistraria (arrow slit windows), and views of Piran and the Adriatic Sea.

Be sure to walk to the end of the wall for an epic view of the Italian coast and Italian Alps.

Explore the Town Walls of Piran Reviews

This medieval town has absolutely unique atmosphere. We spent three weeks there during covid. The entire surrounding area with stunning coastal walks an vineyards has lot to offer if you like a long scenic walks in nature. On the other side in the evenings this charming town offers delicious cuisine and romantic places to enjoy a glass of good wine :)

Piran is Perfect. I was only there for a few hours. I knew I had to come home with bags of their famous salt. The salt store in the center of town is like a museum and you can learn so much about the production in Piran. You park your car outside of town walk or bus to the town center. Climb to the top of the church steeple and basque in the glory that is centuries old. So beautiful I could cry. Oh god i miss it so much.
