The hike to Krnsko Jezero lake (1350m) in the Lepana Valley will bring you up the mountain on a forest trail to a beautiful lake where you can soak in the pure beauty of Slovenian mountains.
To get to the start of the hike, drive to Kal-Koritnica and turn into the Lepena Valley. Drive around 20min along the river until the end of the valley. Make a quick stop at one of the hanging bridges for a great view and a slightly sketchy walk, hanging right over the river.
Continue driving down the narrow road until you get to the end of the road, park the car and start your hike. The first part is a quite strenuous switchback hike on a very rocky surface through the forest. After ca 1.5h you get to the top of the mountain where the hike continues for another 30min until you reach the lake.
Take in the great views (it is not allowed to swim in the lake, to conserve the pure water) and once you caught a breather, visit the farm you can see right next to the lake. If you don't mind the strong smell, the farmer will be happy to show you his cheese selection that he locally produces. If you want to rather sit down for a drink or a meal, there is also a little restaurant close to the lake.
You can now decide to continue to the peak of Mount Krn up to 2182m (we did not do this hike) or to hike back the same way you came.
Once you are back down I highly suggest to reward yourself with a fresh trout from the Soca river at one of the local restaurants. If your stomach still allows, eat the local Krafi desert!
