The Pleasanton Ridge Trail is a great Bay Area day trip, located in Sunol. The trail features wildflowers and scenic views.
Pleasanton Ridge Trail is a 6.4 mile loop. The loop is shared by dog walkers, trail runners, hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders. From the ridge your viewpoints will include Mount Diablo and the San Francisco Bay.
This hike from the Foothills Staging Area is an excellent introduction to the park: long enough to get your heart rate up, but not nearly as arduous as some hikes in the nearby hills.
Water spigots are available to refill your water - but bring extra just in case. The trail also passes through a grove of olive trees from a previous ranch.

Did this hike with some friends after the rain. Was very muddy but that made it more fun

Fun in the mud
We did this hike in the winter right after a couple days of pouring rain. We tried finding a hike that would let us outdoors, without being too dangerous because of all the mud. This one was great! No tree roots to fall over and the trail is fun to get muddy in. Also not many people when we went. I think we only saw 2 or 3 other people.

Great hike!
Nice views, good workout, and was pretty uncrowded! Parking wasn't terrible either! All bonuses for any California adventure! Lots of it is exposed, so bring lots of water and sunscreen!
