Bike the Golden Gate to Sausalito

San Francisco Crissy Field Picnic Area

Added by Jennifer Heifferon

Exercise, beers, and a ferry rideViews from the bridge are breathtakingDuration: 3-4 hours

Riding your bike across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, and then enjoying some drinks on the back deck at Sam's, is a great way to spend a nice day. The views along the way are simply breathtaking. After your ride and a day of fun in Sausalito, you can return to San Francisco by ferry. It's about 8 miles from Crissy Field to Sam's. The trip usually takes 3 to 4 hours.

How to Get There

Fun SF Outing!

Fun way to get some exercise and experience the Golden Gate. And I highly recommend taking the ferry back.

Fun Family Activity

This is a lot of fun for older children and adults. There are places to rent cruiser bikes or bring your own! Give yourself enough time to stop along the way for photo ops and sight-seeing. We timed it so that we were taking the ferry back from Sausalito at Sunset, and it was beautiful!

Best not to do it in the summer when it will likely be foggy and cold. Best seasons are spring and autumn.

Beware of biking/walking tourists. They like to jump in front of you ;)

Chill, enjoy the tourists, the wind, the hill: steep climbs up to the bridge so take the ferry back. Forgot your bike? plenty of places to rent

You can either bike back from Sausalito or bike further down to Tiburon and take ferry (or bike) back to San Francisco.

Done this many times. This is my #1 favorite thing to do when friends and family visit. It isn't too strenuous, and you get amazing views of SF, with the option of taking a ferry back.

If your coming from the Mission, take Polk St back and stop at Bob's Donuts along the way. Great end to an awesome day.

I highly recommend trying the "24 Hour Carnitas" at Copita Tequileria Y Comida in Sausalito.

Great adventure, but make sure you abide by all traffic laws. The cops won't hesitate to slap you with a ticket for not stopping at stop signs or stop lights even if your on a bike.
