Amazing campsites within 45 minutes of SF. The campsites are reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis (try to get there before noon on Friday for a weekend spot). They are located right next to the Steep Ravine and Matt Davis trailheads.

Need an escape from SF, but can't seem to find an available campground, then head to Pantoll Campground in Mount Tamalpais State Park. If you get there early on friday (or even better Thursday afternoon), you should be able to lock down one of these first-come, first-serve campgrounds. Each of the 16 sites is equipped with a fire pit, and bbq grill. The campground provides easy access to the Steep Ravine Trail, Matt Davis Trail, and is close enough to hike to Muir Woods, the Dipsea, or Stinson Beach. The campground is $25/night. To see if the campground is filling up, call ahead at (415) 388-2070.

Camp at Mt. Tam's Pantoll Campground Reviews

This was me and my fiancé's first camping trip and it was perfect! The area is beautiful. The campgrounds are in the middle of the forest and the view looking out is breathtaking

I love the fact that this is so close to the city, yet you don't have to make a reservation 6 months in advance. Yes folks, one of the few first-come first-serve camp sites close to SF! Not the most remote location, but there are so many trails and fun areas to explore nearby! Take a spur-of-the-moment adventure!

I've hiked and climbed around here - the campsites look great, one of these days I'll get a reservation!
