A relatively flat trail to enjoy the best of Point Reyes at Abbotts Lagoon. Wildlife, marshes, headlands, and a seemingly endless beach. A wonderful spot for a romantic picnic (if it’s a nice day).
If you like beaches, headlands, scenic landscapes, wildflowers, and tons of wildlife viewing, you should give this hike a try. Although it only takes about an hour to complete the out-and-back, the vibe surrounding this area is just begging you to slow down and enjoy your natural surroundings.
The whole hike is beautiful. As you make your way down the trail towards the beach, you’ll meander along creek beds and across a couple of cool bridges until your reach the sand dunes and the beach. On a spring day, the area will be covered with wildflowers, and likely much less crowded than some of the more well known spots nearby.
Be sure to check the weather forecast. Sunny days here are glorious, but cloudy days (although still beautiful) can be very cold. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on this trail. Pick up picnic supplies in Point Reyes Station.
