The Nighthawk Trail Black Mountain Loop is a 5.5 mile hike easily accessible from San Diego, offering 360 degree views for dog walkers, hikers, trail runners, and mountain bikers.

The Nighthawk Trail / Black Mountain Loop is a great alternative to Torrey Pines that is slightly less crowded. If you choose to hike this trail at night, the city lights are relatively romantic.

Bring lots of extra water and consider grabbing a trail map, the signage isn't the best along the trail. There is also very little shade. The trail is open year-round.
