Sanboard in Huacachina, Peru

Getting There:

Huacachina is a little desert oasis town about 5km outside Ica, Peru. Getting to the town is best done by taxi, don't pay more than 10 Sol from the bus station.

The Boardin':

The town itself can be walked in about 10 minutes, so you can shop around for the best price while trying to rent a board. There are also plenty of places to rent quad bikes, buggies, etc. if those pique your interest. I'd personally recommend Banana's Adventure - an afternoon of sandboarding/buggy ride is included with a night's stay and the staff are absolute legends. End of the day, most of the services offered are the same. You'll be taken out in a buggy (which is a pretty fun ride in and of itself), and you'll be shuttled from hill to hill. The hills increase in grade/length, and you can either stand up or lay on the board, depending on your preference. It's an awesome experience, being surrounded by nothing but the desert. I'd highly highly recommend this for anyone.

What I wish I knew:

• Whatever clothes you wear will get absolutely mucked with sand (go figure). So don't wear your best stuff.
• Afterwards, go check out the sunset on the top of the hill. You may think you'll come back, but it's kind of a long walk, so might as well do it when you're up there already.
• Don't wear a hat. It falls off and you're that guy that has to jog up a sand dune to get it.
