Kayak the Francis E. Walter Dam
White Haven, Pennsylvania
Description
Added by Kevin Furst
Francis E. Walter Dam offers an 80 acre reservoir for kayaking, canoeing and boating. Hiking, picnicking, fishing, and hunting is also available.
The Francis E. Walter Dam, located in White Haven, Pennsylvania, is truly an amazing location. Constructed in 1961, Francis E. Walter Dam, has prevented nearly $180 million in flood damages to the Lehigh River Valley. The reservoir was designated for recreation use by Congress in 1988.
While kayaking along the banks of the dam you can find water snakes cruising the shallows, rattle snakes sunning themselves on the rock ledges, nesting birds, frogs and toads, and a variety of landscapes. The views vary from a sunken forest, rock cliffs, pines and shallow grassy areas.

Clear skies, mostly all in sun kayaking except when in shade of rocky shore. No bugs. Clean, clear water. No getting out on shores - quick/loose sand - don’t risk it!
