Rough Hill Trail is a short but somewhat challenging lollipop loop hike with two beautiful vistas.
Access to Rough Hill Trail is easy to locate, it is the same parking as Sandy Bottom Access to the Loyalsock Creek and there is a large sign at the turn off on route 87. Once you are in the parking area, there is clear signage for the trail and it is blazed yellow initially following back past the gated road.
The trail will then veer off to the right and eventually across route 87. Once across the trail becomes steep at times and narrow with loose rock. After a short climb you will see a sign for the lower vista that follows a path through mountain laurel and then to a gorgeous view of the valley.
The main trail continues to the lollipop loop and again has a short steep section as your get close to the top when hiking counter clockwise, it levels as you hike through some mountain laurel and you will easily find another vista with great views of the valley and Smith's Knob in the distance, which is a popular spot on the nearby Loyalsock Trail.
