Fred Woods Trail Reviews
Fred Woods Trail has one of the best features in the state, ROCK CITY! The trail is a great hike with two vistas, but the highlight is exploring the rock boulders. These huge moss covered boulders are like a rock maze to explore.

Drive Ridge Road in Elk State Forest
A drive along Ridge Road will bring you to five scenic vistas looking out over remote Elk State Forest.
You can drive the road and simply stop at the vistas, or you can do an out and back hike from anywhere along the road. On my last visit, I parked at the southern most vista, Square Timber Vista, and walked to the northern most vista, Logue Run Vista, a hike of about 1.5 miles one way. The Bu...
Table Falls
The Quehanna Wild Area is an amazing place and Table Falls is one of the easy to get to spots to explore.
There is a small parking for a couple cars on the forest road, Red Run Road. The road will have a U bend over Paige Run and parking is just after the bridge. There is a sign and some blazes that lead you on a short hike to the falls.
Paige Run is beautiful and photogenic, take time to e...
Photograph Elk at the Elk Country Visitor Center
The aptly named Pennsylvania County (Elk County) is a must for anyone looking to understand why the PA Wilds logo looks the way it does. Setting aside a whole day is a must. It will be enough time for most, but for others, there will never be enough time.Depending on which direction you are coming from, I recommend taking the route past Lock Haven and through Renovo, following 120 to 555. In th...
Camp at Cherry Springs State Park
Cherry Springs State Park was my first ever International Dark Sky Park and it stole my heart, and I promise it will steal yours too.The park itself is very quaint, but don't let it's size deter you! The park is still as remote and wild as it was nearly two centuries ago, and that's nearly impossible to find East of the Mississippi anymore. The 82-acre park sits at around 2,300 feet above sea-le...
Hyner View State Park Overlook
Hyner View State Park is located in North Central Pennsylvania Between Lock Haven and Renovo on Route 120 along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River.
The park has plenty of parking, picnic areas and spectacular views. What makes this State Park unique is the foot launch for hang gliders and paragliders.
In order to increase your chances of witnessing hang gliders, check the Hyner Hang ...
Hike the Ruth Will Trail
Their is a large gravel parking area about 12 miles north of Haneyville on route 44. Parking is on the east side of route 44.The trailhead is on the opposite side of the road, follow the trails blue blazes right to hike the loop counter clockwise. The trail initially parallels route 44.The trail will then pass by the Pump Station Fire Tower which was manned by Ruth Will for many years. The s...
