World-famous steelhead and salmon runs on one of the original Wild & Scenic Rivers.
The Steelhead run on the Rogue River is famous the world over and for good reason. Like anywhere, local guides are the gatekeepers to the right spot and should be contacted accordingly. Steelhead run December through March and Chinook April through Fall, with Coho making an appearance in the latter half of that timeframe.
The Mermaid Riffle sits at a gorgeous curve in the Rogue just downstream from a fantastic section of river with no road access for miles. There is a large sand/rockbank with space for overnight camping, and just up the hill is Cougar Lane Lodge, the only bar/restaurant for miles.
To get there take Jerry's Flat Road ~30 miles from Gold Beach. The access road down to the river is just past Cougar Lane Lodge. There is no meaningful access from the east though it is possible to arrive from the north via Highway 42 and National Forest Road 33.
As always, practice the principles of Leave No Trace.
