Ole Bolle Troll
Portland, Oregon
Description
Added by Stephanie Lopez
Have you heard of the PNW trolls? There are 6 total in Washington and Oregon.
Ole Bolle, the Portland Troll, is an art installation located at the Nordic Northwest Campus in Tualatin Valley, Oregon. Crafted by Danish artist Thomas Dambo, Ole Bolle is part of the “Northwest Trolls: Way of the Bird King” project, which features six massive trolls throughout the Pacific Northwest. Constructed entirely from recycled materials, this 19-foot-tall troll embodies Dambo’s mission to promote sustainability and environmental awareness through art. Visitors will find Ole Bolle lifting the roof of a red house, inviting exploration of its whimsical interior, which includes furniture for visitors to relax and enjoy the creative setting.
Access to Ole Bolle is free, and the site is open during daylight hours. Visitors can follow a gravel path marked “Troll Trail” to find this charming attraction. While the paths are wide, the rocky terrain may pose challenges for wheelchairs and strollers. Guided tours are available, offering insights into Nordic culture and the art’s significance. Additionally, the Nordic Northwest Campus features other attractions such as Fogelbo, a traditional Swedish log house, and Nordia House, which houses exhibitions and a Nordic-inspired restaurant.
