Small, easy trail showcasing a few hidden gems of the CJ Brown Reservoir.

This 0.4 trail is tiny but mighty!  It is hidden up the hill from the CJ Brown Reservoir Visitor Center, and leads down a small wooded path to a less accessed part of the lake.  This is a common spot for birdwatching, and a favorite place for Springfield's elusive Great Blue Herons.  Follow the path along the lake, and you'll find several spots to access the water for finishing, a quick swim, or just enjoying the gorgeous view over the water!  There are several paths leading back into the woods and then into a wild fields, full of various wildflowers and insects native to Ohio!  It is a gorgeous and family friendly walk for all ages.

Hike the Stone's Throw Trail Reviews

My wife and I hiked the trail and decided to make it last a bit longer by taking our portable kayak out and paddling around the inlet. It was a beautiful day for hiking and paddling, though it was a bit toasty. I've been to this park many times and never knew this path or lake access point existed! We will definitely return in the future to launch from this spot, possibly to paddle out around the lake next time.
