Funicular Ride Station - Search Nearby - Added by Ksenia Ledene
Through the streets of Bergen and up into forested trails, hiking Mount Floyen offers incredible views of the city, as well as surrounding mountains and the ocean harbor. A great adventure that takes only a few hours to discover.
Mount Floyen is the most popular mountain surrounding Bergen to hike, due to easy accessibility and incredible views. It is located on the northeast side, and is easy to walk to from anywhere in the city. A long switchback trail goes across the base of Mount Floyen and surrounding mountains, making it easy to start this hike from many different places.
For an easy starting point, begin at the Floibanen station where many tourists opt to take the funicular ride up to the viewpoint instead of walking. A switchback trail goes up from there at a steady incline and can be tiring, but the trail itself is very easy to walk (you could do it in sandals, although that would not be recommended). Many people use this trail for running as well - Norwegians are known to be very active, and that becomes obvious when observing fellow hikers.
From the station, a switchback trail starting in the city and progressing through the trees takes you to the Floyen view point in about 45 mins. There is a gift shop located at the top, as well as stone benches to sit and enjoy the view, and a playground for children. This is the perfect spot to watch the sunset, capturing city lights, mountains, and ocean all at once.
