Enjoy one of the most popular hikes of Panthertown Valley in the Nantahala National Forest - often called the Yosemite of the East.

Trail signs in Panthertown Valley are limited. Be sure to bring a map!

Starting at the Cold Mountain parking lot, hike to Schoolhouse Falls. This is a nice waterfall with a pool at the bottom. In the summer, you are bound to run into other fellow hikers here.

From Schoolhouse Falls, you have the option to continue hiking to the top of Little Green. Little Green has a great view of the Panthertown Valley area.

You can either retrace your steps back to your car, or continue on the Little Green Trail and loop around the base of the mountain. Be warned - there are white arrows painted on the rock that will point you in the right direction, but some are a bit faded and blend in with the rock.

Trailhead to Schoolhouse Falls: .9 miles

Schoolhouse Falls to Little Green: .5 miles (mostly uphill)

Hike to Schoolhouse Falls and Little Green Reviews

My daughter and I hiked to these falls in October. The trail to these falls were pretty easy but if you continue on the can become more difficult. We spend the weekend hiking the trails and there are plenty of waterfalls. Make sure you bring bear spray, they are looking for food and stayed their distance.
