Visit a picturesque waterfall by following this short walk along Ohau Stream and visit fur seal pups swimming in the waterfall pool.
Prepare yourself for the cutest walk you will ever go on! This short trail follows a stream filled with playful, furry, seal babies! Over a hundred seal pups come to Ohau Stream and Waterfall every winter. They come here to hone the skills they will need on their own in the wild while their mothers are out at sea hunting. The seal pups play in the waterfall, nap, bark and cough a lot. It's almost too much to handle.
This walk is only a short drive from the Kaikoura Peninsula Walk, combine the two for a full day!
Note: The seal pups are very vulnerable. It is very important that you DO NOT touch, feed or disturb the pups. It is a great privilege to see wildlife up close an personal, please be a conscientious visitor.

Reviews
If you're on highway 1 heading to Chch or Picton, Kaikoura is the perfect spot for a pitstop! This seriously short walk is right off of the highway and well worth the time to either observe the ocean or check out the waterfall and the seal pups just chillin'! As said, these are wild animals, so don't try to feed or touch them!
